Delhi Police drops case against Noida girl accused of abusing PM Modi
The girl later released an apology video, saying she is 15 years old and had made the remarks under the influence of others at the protest.
PTC News Desk: The Delhi Police will not pursue the FIR filed against the minor girl who was seen in a viral video using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar last month.
The decision comes a few days after Noida Police registered a Zero FIR in the case. The girl later released an apology video, saying she is 15 years old and had made the remarks under the influence of others at the protest. As calls for leniency grew on social media, PM Modi said he had forgiven the "misguided children" who had abused him.
“I am only 15 years old. Whatever I did was not worthy of forgiveness. I have said a lot of bad things. This is my first and last mistake. I apologise to the entire country. I am so ashamed. I can't even look at myself. Please forgive me," said the girl.
In an Instagram Reel, the Prime Minister said that punishing or dragging them through court cases would not improve the situation. He appealed to society to forgive them as well.
The girl's mother also urged the Prime Minister to ban social media access for minors. “My humble request to PM Modi is that Instagram and Facebook should be stopped for children under 18. They should be allowed to study only. They should not be allowed to protest sites. These children can be easily taken advantage of. They don't know anything about the world,” she said.
The case had drawn attention after the video went viral, but Delhi Police have now decided not to proceed against the minor.
