Dense fog engulfs Delhi-NCR as AQI dips; Punjab, Haryana reel under intense cold
The Indira Gandhi International Airport has issued a passenger advisory as the dense fog reduced visibility, warning travellers of delays and cancellations.
PTC News Desk: Daily life in several parts of Delhi-NCR was almost brought to a halt on Monday after thick fog enveloped the region, slashing visibility to nearly zero. The poor conditions led to disruptions in flight services and the closure of schools in Noida. Air quality in the capital deteriorated further amid the biting cold, with the AQI touching 403 by 7 am, placing it in the “severe” category.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an orange alert for very dense fog in Delhi, forecasting maximum and minimum temperatures of around 22°C and 7°C, respectively. An orange alert has also been issued for parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile cold wave conditions continue to prevails in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Due to a western disrturbance, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh from Dec 30 to Jan 2, 2026. Isolated light to moderate rainfall is likely to over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from Dec 31 to Jan 1.
