PTC Web Desk:  A mid-day ground incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday led to a collision between two commercial aircraft, raising fresh concerns around airport ground operations. Despite visible damage to both planes, all passengers and crew members were reported safe.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 2 pm when a SpiceJet aircraft, arriving from Leh, was taxiing towards its designated gate. During this movement, it came into contact with an Akasa Air aircraft that was positioned in the parking bay and preparing for departure to Hyderabad.

A spokesperson for SpiceJet confirmed that the right wing of its aircraft sustained damage in the collision. Meanwhile, the Akasa Air plane reportedly suffered significant impact to its left wing.

Following the incident, the SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded in Delhi and will not be cleared for further operations until necessary inspections and repairs are completed.

Akasa Air, in its official statement, said its flight QP 1406, scheduled to depart for Hyderabad, had to be withdrawn to the parking area. Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft was stationary at the time of impact. The airline added that all passengers and crew were safely deboarded.

Data from flight tracking platform FlightRadar24 indicates that the collision took place during simultaneous ground movements, with one aircraft taxiing in and the other undergoing pushback procedures.
