PTC News Desk: Eight people were killed after an SUV plunged into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Friday night.

According to officials, the Toyota Innova was travelling from the Tissa region towards Sach Pass when it met with the accident near Kalaban. The vehicle reportedly fell into a gorge after crossing the Bairagarh police check post, killing all eight occupants on board.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani said the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Kalaban area, causing it to skid off the road and plunge nearly 500 metres into the gorge.

Among the victims were tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh who had hired the vehicle from Dalhousie. Police said the deceased belonged to two families who were travelling together to Sach Pass.

The accident remained unnoticed for a considerable period as it occurred in a remote and difficult-to-access region. Rescue and communication efforts were also hampered by poor mobile network connectivity in the area.

Sach Pass is considered one of the most challenging mountain routes in Himachal Pradesh, known for its difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.
