Pilgrimage to Kedarnath, Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib temporarily suspended amid heavy rainfall
PTC News Desk: Amid continuous rainfall in the upper Himalayan region, the administration has suspended the pilgrimage to Badrinath, Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand as a precautionary measure.
Officials have urged the devotees to cooperate with the local administration and abide by safety guidelines during the temporary halt.
The suspension comes amid an unprecedented surge in pilgrims visiting the shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousands of devotees have been arriving daily, leading to heavy crowding along the pilgrimage route.
The decision follows warnings from the India Meteorological Department, which has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and potentially hazardous conditions in the upper Himalayan regions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing road and trekking routes before allowing the yatra to resume.
Officials said the safety of pilgrims remains the top priority, with police, disaster response teams and local administration personnel deployed across key locations to manage crowds and respond to emergencies if required.
The temporary suspension is part of broader precautionary measures affecting pilgrimages to other major shrines in the region, including Badrinath Temple and Hemkund Sahib, as authorities seek to minimise risks from adverse weather conditions.
