PTC News Desk: A fire broke out at Sindhi Sweets located in Chandigarh's Sector 17 late Saturday night, causing extensive damage to edible items, electrical equipment and other goods inside the shop. Fortunately no casualties were reported.

Several fire tenders and Sector 17 police personnel rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations. The entire area was cordoned off as a precaution.

The blaze was first noticed by the watchman who then informed the fire tenders. After nearly two hours, the blaze was doused and siutation was brought under control.

According to fire brigade officials, the blaze is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.

As a safety measure, Sector 17 police sealed off the entire surrounding area to prevent anyone from approaching the fire and to avoid any mishap. Only fire brigade and police personnel were allowed entry, and even Sindhi Sweets employees were kept outside the premises. Once the fire was brought under control, the area was reopened.

Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit as the cause of the fire, though fire brigade and police teams are continuing to probe the exact reason. Officials said the fire did not spread to nearby showrooms, preventing major losses. The police are investigating the incident and also examining fire safety aspects.
