Himachal fresh snowfall:  The hill state of Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall in its higher reaches and widespread rainfall across several parts last evening. There has been a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Snowfall was reported in key high-altitude areas such as Atal Tunnel, Shinkula and Rohtang Pass. This has brought back chilly conditions in the mountains. At the same time, multiple regions recorded significant rainfall, with Sarahan receiving the highest at 38.7 mm, followed by Dharamshala (27.1 mm) and Kangra (18.2 mm). Other areas, including Nichar, Manali, and Kothkhai also experienced moderate showers.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are expected to remain unstable in several districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning. However, other parts of the state are likely to see relatively normal weather.

The IMD has indicated that the current western disturbance will weaken over the next two days, bringing temporary relief with clearer skies in mid and lower hill regions. However, this improvement is not expected to last long.

Fresh weather activity is likely to impact the state again on April 3 and 4, with forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible hailstorms. Higher altitude regions may also receive snowfall during this period, with adverse weather conditions expected to persist till April 5.

Meanwhile, hailstorms reported in Shimla and Kumarsain on Tuesday evening have caused damage to crops, particularly stone fruits, peas, and cauliflower, raising concerns among farmers.

Over the past 24 hours, Dharamshala recorded the highest rainfall at around 27 mm, while several other areas, including Shimla and Kangra, also witnessed steady showers.

The change in weather has led to a sharp drop in temperatures across the state. Chamba recorded a maximum temperature of 18.6°C, nearly 10.8 degrees below normal. Shimla and Dharamshala also saw temperatures dip below seasonal averages.
