PTC Web Desk: Following the 56th GST Council decision, major automakers Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Renault India have announced price reductions across their passenger vehicle portfolios. The GST Council earlier this week slashed tax rates on cars and auto components, effective from September 22, bringing relief to buyers ahead of the festive season.
Under the new tax structure:
Small cars now attract 18% GST (down from 28%).
Bigger cars and SUVs fall under a flat 40% GST slab, with no additional cess.
Electric vehicles continue to attract 5% GST.
Petrol and diesel cars with bigger engines, earlier taxed at nearly 50% (28% GST 22% cess), will now face 40% GST.
Diesel cars up to 1,500 cc and less than 4,000 mm in length are now taxed at 18%.
Small motorcycles up to 350 cc also move to the 18% slab.

Bolero/Neo: ₹31% → 18% GST, up to Rs 1.27 lakh benefit
XUV3XO (Petrol): 29% → 18%, up to Rs 1.40 lakh
XUV3XO (Diesel): 31% → 18%, up to Rs 1.56 lakh
Thar 2WD (Diesel): 31% → 18%, up to Rs 1.35 lakh
Thar 4WD (Diesel): 48% → 40%, up to Rs 1.01 lakh
Scorpio Classic: 48% → 40%, up to Rs 1.01 lakh
Scorpio-N: 48% → 40%, up to Rs 1.45 lakh
Thar Roxx: 48% → 40%, up to Rs 1.33 lakh
XUV700: 48% → 40%, up to Rs 1.43 lakh

Tiago: up to Rs 75,000 reduction
Tigor: up to Rs 80,000
Altroz: up to Rs 1,10,000
Punch: up to Rs 85,000
Nexon: up to Rs 1,55,000
