Shashi Tharoor's birthday post for PM Modi was not grammar perfect, internet flags fat finger
PTC News Desk: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's birthday wish for PM Modi was exactly how it should have been in a conventional Tharoor style. However the unconventional part was the placing of one little word.
On September 17, Tharoor shared a post on X wishing PM Modi on his 76th birthday. But instead of writing “on his 76th birthday”, he wrote, “in his 76th birthday”, turning what appeared to be a simple preposition slip into the most noticeable part of the message.
“Warm greetings to Prime Minister @narendramodi in his 76th birthday. Wishing him a very happy day and a healthy and fulfilling year ahead. My best wishes to him on this occasion for continued public service to our beloved nation,” Tharoor wrote.

The typo was quickly noticed by users on X, who pointed out the unusual wording. One user highlighted the difference between a grammatical mistake and a simple typing error, while another suggested that the letters “I” and “O” being next to each other on a keyboard might have caused the mistake.
Some users also joked about Tharoor making a grammar error, saying it was hard to believe given his well-known command of English.
Tharoor did not ignore the comments and acknowledged the mistake himself. Replying to a user on Friday, he wrote, “Yea ‘on’ his birthday became ‘in’. This happens all the time, alas.”
The exchange soon turned into a light-hearted moment on social media. Tharoor is widely known for his strong command of English and use of elaborate vocabulary. This time, however, it was not a complex word that caught people’s attention, but the simple use of “in” instead of “on.”
