Himachal road accident: Seven killed, several injured as private bus skids off, falls onto road in Chamba’s Churah
The bus was travelling from Bairagarh to Chamba when the accident took place near the Chalunj bend. The vehicle reportedly lost control, overturned and fell onto the road below. Several passengers were trapped under the bus.
PTC News Desk: At least seven people were killed and 11 others injured after a private bus on the Bairagarh-Chamba route skidded off the road and fell onto a road below at Chalunj in Churah subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning.
The bus was travelling from Bairagarh to Chamba when the accident took place near the Chalunj bend. The vehicle reportedly lost control, overturned and fell onto the road below. Several passengers were trapped under the bus.
Rescue teams, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and began efforts to rescue those trapped. Backhoe loaders were used to lift the overturned bus and pull passengers out from underneath. The rescue operation was still underway when the report was filed.
The identities of those killed and the exact number of injured were not immediately known. The injured were taken to nearby health centres for treatment. Officials feared that the death toll could rise as some of the injured were reportedly in serious condition.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of travelling on Churah’s mountainous roads, which have steep slopes, narrow stretches and sharp turns.
The latest tragedy comes just months after one of the district’s deadliest road accidents this year. In May, eight people, including seven tourists from Bengaluru and their driver, were killed after their vehicle fell into a deep gorge on the Bairagarh-Sach Pass Road.
The latest accident has renewed concerns about road safety and the risks faced by passengers travelling on the district’s difficult mountain roads.
