PTC Web Desk: In a devastating road tragedy, at least 20 persons lost their lives after a Hyderabad–Bengaluru private bus caught fire near Chinnatekuru village in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, early Friday morning.

Among those feared dead is a family of four from Andhra Pradesh, residing in Bengaluru. The victims, identified as Ramesh, his wife, and their two children, were reportedly returning from Hyderabad after Diwali celebrations when the accident occurred. Authorities are awaiting official confirmation of their deaths, according to the Karnataka Police.

The ill-fated bus, carrying 41 passengers, reportedly caught fire after colliding with a scooter, which led to the fuel tank bursting into flames. Within moments, the vehicle was engulfed, leaving several passengers trapped inside.

A forensic team was immediately deployed to the site on National Highway 44, where experts collected samples and examined the wreckage to determine the exact cause of the blaze and the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.

Expressing deep sorrow, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah mourned the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. “Disturbed and pained by the tragic bus fire accident on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru route near Chinnatekuru village in Kurnool district. Several precious lives were lost and many sustained injuries. My sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Wishing strength and a speedy recovery to those injured,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
