PTC Web Desk: The district administration in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Friday prohibited trekking, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities in several high-altitude and forested areas of Kokernag, citing security-related concerns.

The decision was taken after police and security agencies flagged increased risk in certain sensitive zones under the Kokernag subdivision. Authorities said recent inputs suggested suspicious movement in these areas, prompting the need for preventive action.

According to an order issued by SDM Prince Kumar, there have been instances of individuals attempting to cross police checkpoints during late-night hours, raising serious questions about public safety. The administration warned that unrestricted movement in remote forest and mountainous regions could pose a threat to security.

Invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the SDM ordered an immediate ban on trekking, hiking, camping and similar activities in Margan Top, Chauhar Nag and Sinthan areas.

The order directed the SHO of Larnoo to strictly enforce the restrictions and closely monitor all checkpoints in the region. Members of the public have been asked to adhere to the directive, with officials cautioning that violations will invite legal action.

The restrictions will remain effective for a period of two months from the date of issuance, unless revoked earlier or extended in accordance with the law.
