Jammu & Kashmir: Four terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Poonch

Jammu and Kashmir: Four terrorists were killed by security forces in a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir, officials of the Indian Army said on Tuesday.

The joint operation involving Indian Army’s Special Forces, Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir police along with other forces was conducted in the Sindhara area of Poonch. 

The terrorists killed in the operation are most likely foreign terrorists and their identity is being ascertained.


Encounter broke out in J-K's Poonch

"The first engagement between security forces took place at around 11.30 pm yesterday after which drones were deployed along with other night surveillance equipment. At dawn today, the encounter started again with a heavy exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists," Indian Army officials said.

The operation was based on specific intelligence and was launched in the general area Sindarah and Maidana near Surankote tehsil in Poonch. Indian Army and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched the joint cordon and search operation.


Earlier on Monday, an infiltration bid by terrorists was foiled along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir wherein the forces gunned down one terrorist, the government official said on Monday.

The operation by the Indian Army and J-K police also led to the seizure of a large consignment of arms and ammunition.

The officials further said that the movement of terrorists was observed near the Poonch River moving from across the Line of Control.
