Keralas baby Alin Sherin becomes states youngest organ donour, honoured with state funeral
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called her parents’ decision a great act of kindness.
PTC News Desk: Kerala bid an emotional goodbye on Sunday to 10-month-old Aalin Sherin Abraham, the youngest organ donor in the state. She was buried with full state honours a few days after her organs helped save the lives of five very sick patients.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called her parents’ decision a great act of kindness. Actor Kamal Haasan also shared a message, saying their daughter would continue to live on by giving others a healthy life.
Police gave a ceremonial guard of honour outside a church in Pathanamthitta where the funeral was held. Kerala Health Minister Veena George and Union Minister Suresh Gopi were present. Family members and hundreds of people attended the funeral with a teary-eyed.
The state government decided to give her full honours to respect the brave choice made by her parents during such a painful time. Aalin died after being critically injured in a road accident on February 5. She was travelling with her mother and grandparents when a car from the opposite side hit their vehicle near a junction.
She suffered serious injuries, and her mother and grandparents were also badly hurt. Aalin was first taken to nearby hospitals and later shifted to Kochi for advance treatment. Doctors tried their best, but on February 12, they declared her brain dead.
In the middle of their deep sorrow, her parents chose to donate her organs to help others.
