Kolkata horror: 20-year-old woman sexually assaulted by 2 men during birthday celebration, accused at large
The case comes just months after a similar incident in June, when a 24-year-old law student was gang-raped by three students and a security guard on the South Calcutta Law College campus.
PTC News Desk: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman from Haridevpur was sexually assaulted by two during her birthday celebration on September 5. The accused, identified as Chandan Mallick and Dwip (Deep) Biswas, are currently absconding, and police have launched an investigation.
Police sources said the survivor came into contact with Chandan Mallick a few months ago. Mallick, who claimed to be the head of a South Kolkata puja committee, later introduced her to Dwip. The two men allegedly promised her a role in the committee, and the three remained in regular contact.
On the night of the incident, the accused reportedly took the woman to a flat in the Regent Park area, where they had dinner together. When she tried to leave, she alleged that they locked the door, physically assaulted her, and raped her. She managed to escape the following morning and went back home, after which she lodged a complaint at Haridevpur police station.
In an official statement, police said, “The FIR-named accused Chandan Mallick brought the complainant to the residence of another accused, Dwip Biswas, near Malancha, where both allegedly raped and assaulted her. The case is under investigation.”
Authorities are currently trying to trace the accused and have appealed for public assistance in the matter.
The case comes just months after a similar incident in June, when a 24-year-old law student was gang-raped by three students and a security guard on the South Calcutta Law College campus. That attack led to arrests but also triggered widespread protests and renewed concerns about women’s safety in the city.
