US woman sexually assaulted by homestay owner in Karnataka, accused arrested

PTC News Desk: A woman from the United States has alleged that she was sexually assaulted at a homestay in Karnataka. Acting on her complaint, the police have arrested the homestay owner and one of the workers.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Vrujesh Kumar, a native of Jharkhand working at the homestay, allegedly raped the US national.

The incident reportedly took place at a homestay in Kutta village in Kodagu district. The homestay owner has also been booked for allegedly trying to cover up the incident. He is accused of disconnecting the WiFi for three days, which prevented the woman from contacting anyone during that time. After regaining access, the victim reportedly left the homestay on the pretext of travelling to Mysuru.

She later informed the United States Embassy about the incident. Following this, US officials contacted the Mysuru police via email, after which a formal case was registered. The Kodagu Superintendent of Police confirmed that a case of sexual assault involving a foreign national has been filed at Kutta police station.

Both accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody until May 3. Further investigation is ongoing.
