Law student found dead under mysterious circumstances in Chandigarhs Sector 17

Police checked CCTV footage from the area but did not find any clear footage of the incident.

PTC News Desk: A law student from a private university in Mohali was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Chandigarh's Sector 17 late Saturday evening.


The deceased identified as Ajay Gill, a native of Ludhiana died after sustaining a gunshot wound reportedly from his licensed pistol outside a liquor store in Sector 17 late Saturday evening.


A police officer said Gill had gone to Daflo Club in Sector 26 with some friends. While returning, they stopped near a liquor shop in Sector 17.


“Gill was handling a pistol when it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck his head, causing a serious injury. His friends immediately shifted him to Sector 16 in the same vehicle, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the officer said.


According to sources, Gill was travelling in a car with one of his friends, while the other members of the group were in another vehicle. The group stopped near the Bottle Room liquor store on Madhya Marg in Sector 17.


Gill’s friend went inside the store to buy liquor. When he returned, he found Gill lying in a pool of blood inside the car. He immediately took him to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.


Eyewitnesses said Gill was sitting inside the car when the incident happened.


Police checked CCTV footage from the area but did not find any clear footage of the incident. Forensic experts also examined the car at the GMSH parking area.


Police had detained Gill’s friends for questioning and were trying to find out what exactly happened before the incident.
