Mumbai on high alert after WhatsApp threat claims ‘RDX in 34 vehicles’ ahead of Ganpati Visarjan
Police urges citizens not to fall for rumours, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity to them
PTC Web Desk: The Mumbai police have heightened security after a WhatsApp message sent to the traffic control room alleged that 14 terrorists had entered the city with 400 kg of RDX and hidden the explosives in 34 vehicles. The threat was received on Thursday evening, just as the authorities were finalising arrangements for Anant Chaturthi, the concluding day of the Ganesh festival.
According to officials, the Crime Branch has taken up the probe, while the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other security agencies have also been alerted. The message, sent under the name of an outfit called Lashkar-e-Jihadi, claimed the explosives were intended to cause blasts that would "shake the country."
Police sources confirmed that extensive combing operations are being carried out across the city, with increased vigilance at sensitive locations and festival hotspots. Lakhs of devotees are expected to gather for the grand Ganesh idol immersions scheduled for Saturday.
The official further urged citizens not to fall for rumours, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity to the police.
