Delhi BMW crash: It was meant to be a day of celebration, but for 22-year-old Navnoor Singh, his birthday turned into one of unimaginable sorrow. Just a day before he turned 22, his father, Navjot Singh, lost his life in a horrific accident near the Delhi Cantonment metro station, leaving the family shattered. His mother, Sandeep Kaur, survived but remains critically injured in hospital.

According to an NDTV report, the tragedy was accompanied by a cruel twist. Early this morning, as Navnoor was preparing for his father’s cremation, the doorbell rang. A delivery his father had arranged days earlier had arrived—an air fryer and a shirt, meant as a birthday surprise for his only son.

“This was his last surprise,” Navnoor shared with his father’s close friend Rishabh. When asked why Navjot had chosen an air fryer, Navnoor explained that he had recently developed an interest in cooking—something his father had noticed and encouraged. Rishabh, overwhelmed with emotion, struggled to respond.

Navjot Singh, 52, served as deputy secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. Friends remember him as someone who loved travelling, surprising people, and celebrating life’s small moments. “He was like a brother,” said Rishabh, recalling countless trips where Navjot planned everything down to the last detail, always keeping surprises in store.

Navjot and his wife were travelling on a two-wheeler when a speeding BMW rear-ended them. They were rushed to a hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 19 km from the crash site, where doctors declared Navjot dead. Questions have since been raised over why the victims were not taken to a nearby facility.

The car was driven by Gaganpreet Kaur, with her husband Parikshit beside her. Both have been booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and destroying evidence.

Rishabh, fighting back tears, said he only wants justice for his friend. “Accidents can happen to anyone. But when it happens, won’t you call the police or an ambulance? She claims her mind wasn’t working, yet she called the hospital to prepare everything. An ambulance could have reached in minutes—maybe Navjot would still be alive. All I ask is justice for him.”
