Nine-year-old girl who jumped to death was bullied, teacher ignored complaint, alleges parents

PTC News Desk: The parents of a nine-year-old girl who died after jumping from the fourth floor of a private school in Jaipur have accused a teacher of ignoring their daughter’s repeated complaints about bullying by her classmates — including on the day of the incident.
They claimed that their daughter had approached the teacher at least four times to report being harassed by a few boys in her class, and that the family had also brought the matter to the school’s attention earlier. On November 1, the girl, identified as Amayra, jumped from the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School — a drop of nearly 48 feet — in what her parents described as an “unimaginable” act for a child who was “cheerful and bright.” She was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“She had complained to me several times about being bullied in class. Some boys used to disrespect her and tease her by linking her name with another boy. I had approached the teacher regarding this matter, but she was very insensitive,” the girl’s mother, Shivani said.
The heartbreaking incident was captured on CCTV footage showing her climbing over the railing before jumping. Her mother said the bullying had worsened last year and persisted this year as the same students remained in her section. “I had complained once or twice last year as well. I even spoke to the principal, Indu ma’am, about what Amayra was going through in the classroom,” she said.
CCTV footage from the classroom, reviewed by investigators, shows Amaiyra walking up to her teacher twice in the minutes before she climbed the railing and jumped. What she said is not known because, despite CBSE guidelines mandating audio recording in classroom surveillance, the footage has no sound.
"We want answers. We want to know from the school: with over 5,000 children and a six-floor building, how did they get permission to build the extra floors without having a grill or a net for safety? It's the most basic thing. How can you have open floors with so many children around? How come there is no audio available in the CCTV that should be there as per CBSE guidelines? In fact, 15 days of CCTV footage should be available. It's a prestigious school of Jaipur. They charge substantial fees, but where is the accountability?" said Amaiyra's uncle, Sahil.
