PTC News Desk: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is set to travel to Beijing on Monday for the next round of India-China talks on the long-standing border dispute.

Doval, who is India’s Special Representative for the talks, will meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Tuesday for the 25th round of negotiations. The Special Representatives’ mechanism was set up in 2003 to find a permanent solution to the boundary dispute along the 3,488-km India-China border.

Although the talks have not yet resulted in a final agreement, officials consider the mechanism important for reducing tensions and keeping communication open between the two countries.

The meeting comes ahead of the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13. China and India have not officially confirmed whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend, but officials are hopeful that he will. If Xi visits India, it could lead to a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit.

Modi and Xi last met in August 2025 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.

Jaishankar On India-China Border

Before Doval’s visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stressed that maintaining peace along the India-China border is important for improving overall relations between the two countries.

His remarks came amid reports of increased Chinese military activity in Upper Subansiri in Arunachal Pradesh. The situation comes against the backdrop of tensions that began during the 2020 border crisis and continued efforts by both countries to restore stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
