PTC News Desk: Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport saw a tense situation on Tuesday evening after two aircraft — one operated by Air India and the other by IndiGo — were involved in a ground collision while carrying passengers. The incident involved Air India flight AI2732, scheduled to depart for Coimbatore, and IndiGo flight 6E791, which had arrived from Hyderabad.

Reports indicate that the right wingtips of the two aircraft came into contact while they were taxiing on the ground. At the time, the Air India aircraft was being pushed back in preparation for departure, while the IndiGo plane was taxiing after landing. Following the incident, both aircraft were taken back to their respective bays for inspection, and officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) were dispatched to the spot.

“Ground incident involving Air India and IndiGo A320 aircraft at Mumbai Airport. An incident involving two A320 aircraft occurred during ground movement on 3 Feb 2026 at Mumbai Airport. Air India flight A12732 (aircraft registration VT-TYF) was taxying from C1 towards M4 for departure, whilst an IndiGo A320 (aircraft registration VT-IFV) was taxying on arrival and joining B1. During taxiing, the right wing tips of both aircraft touched each other. Both aircraft returned to their respective bays for inspection. DGCA officers from the Mumbai office have reached the site,” DGCA, in a statement, stated.

No injuries were reported, and all passengers were safely taken off the aircraft. The aviation regulator has initiated a probe and has directed both airlines to submit detailed reports on the incident. Air India confirmed that the contact between the two planes resulted in damage to its wingtip, while IndiGo stated that its aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance checks.

The incident has raised questions about ground movement and safety protocols at Mumbai Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in the country. The DGCA will examine the circumstances leading to the collision and take appropriate action based on its findings.

According to reports, a well-known aviation journalist flagged the incident on social media platform X, calling it a serious safety concern and warning that the collision could have put hundreds of lives at risk.

Sources further revealed that the Air India aircraft was in the process of pushing back for takeoff when the IndiGo flight, which had just landed, came into contact with it, prompting the ongoing investigation by aviation authorities.
