Fast-track courts will be set up: PM Modi breaks silence amid ongoing protests, CJPs Dipke responds

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence over the paper leaks controversy and subsequent students=led protests, announcing that a fast-track court will be set up to ensure "swift" and "stringent punishment" for those involved in exam paper leaks.

The announcement comes a day after Rahul Gandhi alleged that there have been zero convictions in the '152 paper leak' cases over the last 10 years.

"We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard," PM Modi tweeted.

He also said that setting up fast-track courts is one of several measures the government has introduced to deal with the problem of exam paper leaks.

The fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue himself is being seen as an effort by the government to reassure students and calm growing protests. Speaking at the NDA parliamentary meeting on Wednesday, Modi described the alleged NEET-UG paper leak as a "ghor paap" (grave sin) and said the government acted quickly by arresting those involved. So far, 13 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Rahul Gandhi hits back

Soon after the Prime Minister's remarks, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi responded sharply. Gandhi, who had led a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence on July 21 before being detained, accused the government of damaging the country's education system.

"You are the one who has harmed the future of our youth the most. You allowed and encouraged the total capture and destruction of our education system - and protected every person responsible for it," Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.

He also repeated the protesters' key demands, including the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"The students' demands are clear: sack Dharmendra Pradhan, apologise to the students, and take action against those who assaulted them," Rahul Gandhi said.

CJP reiterates resignation demand

Reacting to the Prime Minister's announcement, the CJP reiterated its demand for the minister's resignation.

“Dharmendra Pradhan must resign,” the satirical front wrote on X.
