PTC News Desk: The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Sunday appointed Tejaswi Yadav as its national working president, marking a significant general shift

The announcement was made during the opening session of the RJD’s national executive meeting in Patna earlier in the day, where party president Lalu Prasad Yadav officially handed over the appointment letter to his son in the presence of senior leaders. His wife, Rabri Devi, also attended the event.

The RJD shared photos from the ceremony on its official X account, captioning them: “A new chapter begins! Tejashwi Yadav has been named National Executive President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.” The move is expected to strengthen the 36-year-old leader’s influence over the party’s organisation and daily operations.

However, the promotion drew sharp criticism from his sister Rohini Acharya, who had earlier stepped away from politics and distanced herself from the family following RJD’s heavy defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. In a strongly worded, unnamed post on X, she mocked party loyalists and an alleged “infiltrator group” over Tejashwi Yadav’s elevation.

In her Hindi post, Acharya described the development as the “crowning moment” of a political career, sarcastically congratulating what she called the “sycophants” and “infiltrator gang” for turning the “prince into a puppet.”

Tejashwi Yadav’s political rise was swift rather than gradual. The younger son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, he entered politics after a brief cricket career and was pushed into leadership when his father was jailed in the fodder scam cases.
