Massive Train Collision in Odisha: 261 fatalities, 900 injured; CM Naveen Patnaik takes charge of rescue operations

New Delhi, June 03 : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urgently responded to a railway accident in Balasore, where three trains were involved. As news of the tragic incident unfolded, Patnaik rushed to the control room to gather information and assess the situation.
The collision, which took place in the evening, has resulted in a staggering death toll of 233 individuals, with 900 more reported injured. The accident occurred when a passenger train collided with the derailed coaches of another train in Balasore, Odisha.
The extent of the devastation is such that there are concerns about the possibility of people being trapped in the wreckage. Additionally, a third freight train was also involved in the incident, further compounding the severity of the situation.

Expressing his grief, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed reporters, stating, "I have just reviewed the situation about this truly tragic railway accident." Recognising the gravity of the incident, he is personally taking charge to oversee the rescue and relief efforts.
The two trains involved in the collision have been identified as the 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express and the 12864 Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express. Of the two, the Coromandel Express suffered the most significant damage, with fifteen of its coaches derailing. Two coaches of the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express were also derailed, adding to the chaotic scene.
As rescue operations continue and the full extent of the tragedy becomes apparent, the focus remains on saving lives, providing medical assistance to the injured, and restoring order to the affected area. The railway authorities, local administration, and emergency response teams are working tirelessly to mitigate the immediate consequences of this devastating accident.
