IndiGo announces Rs 10,000 travel vouchers for passengers hit by major flight disruptions
PTC Web Desk: IndiGo has announced a special compensation initiative for travellers affected by widespread flight delays and cancellations between December 3 and 5. The airline, which has been battling severe operational challenges, confirmed on Thursday that each severely impacted passenger will receive travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000.
The airline said many passengers were stranded for extended hours at multiple airports due to unexpected congestion and disruptions in its network. “We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers during December 3, 4 and 5. To support those who were most affected, IndiGo will issue Rs 10,000 travel vouchers valid for any IndiGo flight over the next 12 months,” the carrier said in an official statement.
This relief measure comes in addition to the mandatory compensation already required under DGCA regulations. As per government rules, passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure are eligible for compensation ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the flight’s block time.
Meanwhile, regulatory authorities have also instructed IndiGo to cut its winter schedule by 10% to stabilise operations. Before disruptions began on December 2, the airline was operating nearly 2,300 flights daily.
