Man shot dead in broad daylight inside Abohar court complex; attack linked to gang rivalry
PTC Web Desk: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight inside the Abohar court complex in Punjab on Thursday. The victim, identified as Akash alias Golu Pandit, had come to the court for a scheduled hearing in an Arms Act case when he was ambushed and fired upon in the parking area.
According to police officials, Golu had recently been released on bail. Around 10.30 am, after appearing in court, he walked towards his car along with his two aides, Sonu and another youth. As he approached his vehicle, attackers who were already waiting in a white car opened fire. One of the assailants stepped out and repeatedly shot at Golu, discharging at least six rounds. Multiple bullets struck the victim, causing him to collapse on the spot.
The assailants fled immediately after the shooting. The sudden gunfire triggered panic in the court complex, forcing litigants and lawyers to rush out of their chambers. The police were informed and the injured Golu was taken to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries as five bullets had pierced his body.
SSP Fazilka Gurmeet Singh, who reached the crime scene with his team, confirmed that the murder appeared to be the result of an ongoing gang rivalry. Preliminary investigation suggests that the killers conducted a recce and waited for the precise moment when Golu would exit the courtroom. Forensic teams recovered bullet casings and the area has been sealed for examination.
Security was also tightened at the hospital amid fears of a retaliatory attack. Sonu, a close associate of the deceased, alleged that the murder was carried out by gangsters Gaggi Lahoria and his aides due to an old feud. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage to identify the suspects and track their movements.
The victim was the son of Avneesh Pandit, the priest of Johri Temple. The police have obtained significant leads and teams have been deployed to nab the accused.
