UP crime: Teacher shot dead on Aligarh Muslim University campus; police launch manhunt for assailants

Danish was sitting with friends when two men on a scooter arrived and opened fire, leaving him with fatal head injuries

PTC Web Desk: A late-evening shooting inside Aligarh Muslim University premises on Wednesday claimed the life of a teacher, leaving the campus tense and prompting a large-scale police investigation.

The victim, Rao Danish, was employed at ABK Union High School, an institution affiliated with AMU. The police said the incident occurred near the library canteen area around 9 pm, within the limits of Civil Lines police station.

Danish was seated outdoors with a few companions when two unknown persons reached the spot on a scooter. Moments later, gunshots were fired and Danish collapsed after sustaining severe head injuries. Bystanders rushed him to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead during emergency treatment.

University Proctor Prof  Mohd  Wasim Ali said AMU authorities were informed about a firing incident on the campus and immediately coordinated medical help. He confirmed that the injured teacher could not survive.

Senior police officials said investigation teams have been deployed to trace the attackers. SP Mayank Pathak stated that CCTV footage from inside and around the campus is being scrutinised, while officials are also examining possible motives, including personal disputes. Statements from family members are being recorded as part of the inquiry.

Following the killing, security arrangements were reinforced at key locations inside the university. The incident has caused widespread unease among students and staff, many of whom expressed concern over safety within the campus.

The police said further action would follow as the investigation progresses.
