PTC News Desk: At least six members of a family, including two infants, died after the roof of their old house collapsed during heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district early on Thursday. A 28-year-old man was the only survivor and suffered serious injuries.

The incident took place around 2 am in Mahuli ward under the Kotwali police station area, when all seven family members were asleep inside their nearly 100-year-old house. According to Deputy SP (City) Ashutosh Mishra, the old building suddenly collapsed, trapping the family under the debris.

After neighbours raised the alarm, police, fire department teams and rescue workers reached the spot, pulled the victims out of the rubble and rushed the injured survivor to hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Pramod Srivastava (60), his wife Rita (55), their son Nitin (25), daughter-in-law Madhuri (23), and two children — one-year-old Madhav and 10-month-old Babu, also known as Adivik. Police said Aman (28), another son of Pramod Srivastava, was the only person who survived the collapse.

A neighbour, Poonam Srivastava, said the family was sleeping when the roof suddenly fell. The debris from the upper floor crashed onto the lower floor, trapping everyone inside.
