Uttarakhand Kanwar Yatra 2023: Devotees asked to carry ID cards, take smaller kanwars
Haridwar (Uttarakhand), June 24: Kanwar Yatris have been asked to carry their government-issued ID card with them during the Kanwar Yatra 2023, Garhwal Police Commissioner Sushil Kumar said on Saturday.
The Garhwal Commissioner stated after the inter-state meeting to discuss preparations and coordination for the Yatra, "A meeting with all relevant officials, including those from neighbouring states, was held today for preparation and coordination between states, ahead of Kanwar Yatra 2023." Kanwar Yatris are advised to bring their government-issued ID cards with them on the Yatra."
He went on to say that the 'kanwariyas' are being asked to make smaller 'kanwars' to avoid accidents.
Kanwar not higher than 12 feet
"Kanwariyas are requested not to make 'kanwars' higher than 12 feet to avoid accidents and not cause noise pollution. This time, the police will pay special attention to those who ride motorcycles without silencers", the commissioner further said.
He called it a big challenge to complete the Yatra successfully without any untoward incidents, adding that all preparations have been made and overseen for the peaceful conduct of the event.
Garhwal DIG Karan Singh Nagnyal told the media after the meeting, "We have requested 10 companies of paramilitary forces personnel for the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Yatra in the State."
The DIG also encouraged pilgrims to heed the administration's directions so that the Yatra can be held peacefully.
On Saturday, an inter-state meeting was conducted in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district to discuss preparations and coordination for the Kanwar Yatra 2023.
The meeting was attended by state officials as well as representatives from nearby states such as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
