Weather alert: Mercury set to rise, Western Disturbances to bring heavy rainfall in North

Minimum temperatures across northwest India are expected to rise gradually by two to four degrees Celsius over the next two days, offering relief from the prevailing cold wave.

A notable shift in weather conditions is on the cards as a strong western disturbance moves in, affecting northern India.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on January 22.


Minimum temperatures across northwest India are expected to rise gradually by two to four degrees Celsius over the next two days, offering relief from the prevailing cold wave.


In Delhi, temperatures are likely to climb, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a maximum of around 21 degrees Celsius. Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience isolated to scattered rain and snowfall from January 22, with precipitation becoming widespread between January 22 and 24. Uttarakhand will see scattered precipitation beginning January 22, intensifying from January 23 to 25.


The impact of western disturbances will not be limited to the hills and will extend across much of northwest India. Punjab is likely to witness scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall from January 22 to 25.


Comparable weather conditions are forecast for Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan during this period, while eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive rainfall mainly on January 23 and 24.
