PTC Web Desk: What first appeared to be a tragic case of accidental electrocution has now turned out to be a cold-blooded murder rooted in betrayal and conspiracy in Delhi's Dwarka area.

On July 13, 36-year-old Karan Dev was rushed to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital by his wife, Sushmita, who claimed he had suffered a fatal electric shock at home. The hospital authorities declared him dead on arrival. Trusting her account, Karan’s family initially waived off the post-mortem examination, believing it to be a domestic mishap.

However, due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the young man's death, the Delhi Police insisted on conducting an autopsy. Despite objections from both Sushmita and Karan’s cousin Rahul, the body was sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a detailed post-mortem.

Three days after the incident, Karan’s younger brother, Kunal, approached the police with shocking revelations. He presented a series of Instagram chats exchanged between Sushmita and Rahul, exposing a premeditated plan to kill Karan. The digital evidence pointed towards an illicit relationship between the two accused, who allegedly conspired to eliminate Karan to continue their affair.

The chats revealed that Sushmita and Rahul had administered around 15 sleeping pills to Karan during dinner. After he lost consciousness but was still alive, they discussed their next move. To mask the murder, they gave him an electric shock, hoping to pass it off as an accident. Disturbingly, the duo had even searched online to determine how long the sleeping pills would take to be fatal.

Sushmita, during police interrogation, confessed to the crime. She cited recurring abuse and financial pressure from her husband, including a violent incident just before Karwa Chauth, as motives behind her involvement in the murder.

“She admitted to plotting and executing the murder with the help of her lover, who is also the victim’s cousin,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), Ankit Singh. “A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections, and we are proceeding with arrests. We are also awaiting the detailed post-mortem report.”

While Sushmita has been taken into custody, Rahul remains under investigation.
