Woman throws chilli powder at jeweller in robbery attempt, instead gets slapped over 20 times
Police said the shopkeeper has refused to lodge a formal complaint, but an investigation has been launched to identify and locate the woman using CCTV footage.
PTC News Desk: A woman who attempted to rob a jewelery store in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, ended up being slapped nearly 20 times in just 25 seconds by the shopkeeper after her plan was foiled.
The incident occurred on November 3 around 12:30 p.m. and was captured on CCTV footage that has since gone viral. The woman, her face covered with a dupatta, entered a gold and silver jewelry store near the Ranip vegetable market pretending to be a customer. Moments later, she threw chilli powder at the shopkeeper in an attempt to rob him.
However, the chilli powder missed his eyes. Realising her intentions, the shopkeeper quickly reacted, and repeatedly slapped her about 20 times in 25 seconds — before jumping over the counter, dragging her outside.
Police said the shopkeeper has refused to lodge a formal complaint, but an investigation has been launched to identify and locate the woman using CCTV footage. Ranip Police Station Inspector Ketan Vyas confirmed that while the shopkeeper is unwilling to file a case, the police have begun tracing the suspect.
The Ahmedabad Police added that they have met the shopkeeper twice to encourage him to register a complaint.
The Ahmedabad Police, in a statement on X on Thursday, said, "In this case, the complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage."
