New Delhi, June 13: Congress workers staged a protest on Monday, holding placards in support of party leader Rahul Gandhi, ahead of his appearance before the Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi for questioning in the National Herald case.

On Monday., the visuals from the AICC headquarters showed Congress workers staging protest, and holding placards and inflatable balloons with 'Satyameva Jayate' written on them. Some party workers were detained near Congress headquarters in the national capital.

In solidarity with Rahul Gandhi, the party has planned a march from the party headquarters to the ED office, as well as 'satyagrahas' outside the ED offices in various states.

According to reports, Congress MPs and members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) have also been urged to join the protest on Monday in Delhi.

On Thursday, the General Secretaries of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), State Incharges, and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chiefs gathered to discuss the strategy.

However, Delhi Police had denied permission to a Congress rally, citing law and order.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed outside Rahul Gandhi's residence and additional security forces have been deployed outside the Enforcement Directorate office in the national capital.

"Congress leaders will stay united. Police are being used for a different purpose, but we will continue to carry forward our work," senior Congress leader and Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singh Deo said.

Rahul Gandhi had been summoned to join the investigation earlier, but he was out of the country, and he was later given a new date of June 13 to join the investigation.

The ED issued a new summons to Sonia Gandhi on Friday, asking her to appear in court on June 23 for questioning in the National Herald money laundering case.

The ED wants to record both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's testimonies under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act's criminal sections (PMLA).

Meanwhile, the Congress party claims that it is a "political vendetta" and that the case has no grounds for investigation.

Earlier, Congress leader Manickam Tagore said that party workers will protest at around 25 offices of the probe agency around the country against political vendetta and the central government's "misuse" of the central investigative agencies to "silence the voice of opposition."
