New Congress president to be elected by Dec 11, last date of filling nomination Dec 4

In a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee it was decided to elect the new Congress president by December 11, as per Congress Party sources.

December 4 is likely the last date for filing the nomination for the Congress president’s post.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi chaired the CWC meeting and was held at her 10 Janpath residence.The decision would pave the way for elevation of party vice president Rahul Gandhi as the new chief, party sources said.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to be the only candidate in the fray, as per sources. The 47-year-old Rahul is likely to take over the reins before the Gujarat Assembly elections, which start on December 9.

The party’s organisational election has to be completed before December 31.The Election Commission has given the party the last extension for completing the internal poll process by the end of this year.
