‘Daughters of country lost..,’ Sakshi Malik criticise BJP for giving ticket to Brij Bhushan's son Karan
Sakshi Malik criticise BJP : Ace Indian wrestler and Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik voiced criticism against the BJP's decision to field Karan, the son of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Shahran Singh, as a candidate for the Lok Sabha Elections from the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to her X handle, Malik wrote in hindi, "Daughters of the country lost, Brij Bhushan won.”
Further she wrote, “We all put our careers at stake, and slept on the streets for many days in sun and rain. Till date, Brij Bhushan has not been arrested. We were not demanding anything, we were only demanding justice."
Questioning BJP, Malik said, “By granting a ticket to his son, you've not just avoided arrest; you've shattered the morale of millions of daughters across the nation. Is the government so feeble in front of one man that it bows to only one family? Is Lord Shri Ram's name merely a tool for garnering votes, forgetting the values he espoused?”
The Bharatiya Janata Party officially announced Karan Bhushan Singh, the son of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, as its candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh's Kaiserganj seat, thus ending all speculations surrounding the constituency.
The Kaiserganj constituency is currently held by BJP's Brij Bhushan Singh, who is a three-time MP from the seat. He, however, has not been given a ticket this time.
The decision comes amid mounting pressure on Brij Bhushan, who served as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India for nearly a decade, following accusations of sexual misconduct by six women wrestlers. The allegations prompted a significant demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, with top Indian wrestlers like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia participating.
Furthermore, Brij Bhushan’s political career is also marked by several controversies including being arrested in the demolition of the Babri Masjid, booked under the anti-terrorism law TADA and several others.
With polling scheduled for May 20 in Kaiserganj during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Karan Bhushan Singh as the party's candidate signals a potential shift in political strategy amidst ongoing legal proceedings and public scrutiny.
