Pay Rs 200 extra to enter Taj Mahal

Anyone who wants to see the main mausoleum in Taj Mahal needs to purchase an additional ticket of Rs 200 from Monday.  The main mausoleum houses the replicas of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal’s graves.

The Archaeological Survey of India's Chief Archaeologist in Agra, Vasant Swarnakar, said that the domestic visitors will now have to shell out Rs 250 and foreign visitors Rs 1,300 to see the main mausoleum in the Taj Mahal. If anyone visiting from the SAARC nations, they have to pay Rs 740 instead of Rs 540 for the same.

The new increased ticket system will help reduce the visitors' load at the Taj Mahal. Visitors who purchase a ticket of Rs 50 will be allowed to move around the Mughal architecture and see the rear side. The original graves are kept in the basement and not accessible to the visitors.

Vasant Swarnakar said, “A notification to be effective from December 10 has been issued after directions from the headquarters in Delhi, and a copy has been circulated to all those concerned.”
