PTC Web Desk: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took a dig at his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann on his birthday on Saturday, saying Mann has spent five years of his term on jokes. Wishing him a happy birthday, Saini added that he hoped Mann would keep entertaining people the same way.
Nayab Saini made the remarks at a press conference as his government entered its third year after the BJP returned to power in Haryana for a third straight term.
Asked about the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Nayab Saini accused the Punjab Government of failing to act when it mattered. He said the AAP government only made promises and could not deliver on them.
He said Punjab’s voters had backed the party expecting drugs to be wiped out within three to six months. With only about three months left in the government’s term, he claimed, drug peddlers had become fearless and were working openly.
“People in Punjab are so scared today that they hesitate even to report incidents to the police,” Saini said.
Calling drugs a serious issue, Haryana CM Nayab Saini said women end up paying the heaviest price for it. He said the matter should not be politicised, adding that drug use in Punjab had risen rather than fallen.
Speaking about Jhota, he said the activist was deeply pained by the drug problem and that people must have seen his older videos. He also accused the Punjab government of being steeped in corruption.
Saini returned from Sweden on Saturday. He said agreements worth Rs 4,000 crore were signed during the visit, which would create over 11,000 new jobs in Haryana.
He also mentioned his recent trip to Singapore, where he held talks with several companies and agreed on investment deals worth Rs 5,500 crore.
