Rahul Gandhi detained, Priyanka dragged away by women cops after lying down on road in Janpath showdown

PTC Web Desk: Rahul Gandhi is refusing to back down from his demand to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar, calling for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Police officers are trying to persuade him otherwise. Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi lay down on the road and alleged that MPs had been beaten up. Opposition MPs are also present at the protest alongside the two leaders. Rahul Gandhi said that Gyanesh Kumar is not a legitimate Election Commissioner and will have to step down.

Earlier, opposition MPs had lunch for about an hour and a half at the Sagar Ratna restaurant on Janpath. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had invited the INDIA bloc MPs for the meal.

A day before, more than 200 INDIA bloc MPs marched from Parliament towards the Election Commission office, but they were stopped before reaching it. Rahul and Priyanka then staged an eight-hour sit-in at the Akashvani premises. However, an FIR has been registered against both of them for forcibly entering the premises.
