Prof Chandumajra quits Akali Dal Punar Surjit, calls for unity of all Panthic groups ahead of Punjab elections 2027
Former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra has left Akali Dal Punar Surjit and called on all Akali and Panthic groups to unite ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections
PTC Web Desk: Former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra announced on Wednesday that he is parting ways with the Akali Dal Punar Surjit. He urged all Akali and Panthic groups to come together on one platform, saying a joint struggle is needed to protect the interests of Punjab and the Panth.
Speaking to reporters, Professor Chandumajra said the Shiromani Akali Dal was the party that speaks for Panth and Punjab. He said he had always fought for Punjab’s rights during his political career, but he was saddened that the party had not been able to play an effective role in defending the state’s interests at present. He felt there was a lack of active political agitation against what he called the government’s anti-people and anti-Punjab decisions.
He said the split of the Akali Dal into several factions was helping forces that work against the interests of Punjab and the Panth. Pointing to the upcoming Assembly elections, he said all pro-Punjab forces must unite to protect the state’s interests.
Explaining why he left, Professor Chandumajra said he had appealed for all factions to be brought onto one platform for Panthic unity. Giani Harpreet Singh’s public response to that appeal, he said, made it clear that the two sides do not share the same thinking, views or style of working. This led him to leave the organisation.
Prof Chandumajra made it clear that even after leaving, his commitment to Punjab, the Panth, the Punjabi language and culture and the state’s rights will remain as strong as before.
