PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday criticised the Centre for suspending 49 Lok Sabha MPs, accusing the government of aiming to turn Parliament into a place that stifles democracy.

Expressing her dismay, Harsimrat Kaur Badal questioned the intentions behind the construction of the new Parliament building, suggesting that the government's actions were making it akin to a "graveyard of democracy."

The SAD MP highlighted the absence of repercussions for the MP responsible for issuing passes related to a security breach and criticised the perceived imposition of a new protocol: "Take sleeping pills and remain silent; you're not allowed to voice concerns or ask questions," she added.

The suspension of an additional 49 Lok Sabha MPs added to a series of disciplinary measures taken against lawmakers, raising the total count of suspended MPs to 141. This action came after the unprecedented suspension of 78 MPs from both Houses of Parliament the day before.
