Row erupts at AI Summit as Youth Congress workers go shirtless, raise slogans against India-US trade deal; 10 detained
PTC News Desk: Controversies at the India AI Impact Summit doesn't seem to take a back seat anytime soon with latest being a protest by bunch of shirtless men from Youth Congress taking a centre stage.
A group of Youth Congress workers took their shirts off and staged a protest for a brief time and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before being whisked away by security personnel.
The incident unfolded on the day several tech giants were in attendance at the summit, receiving massive backlash by BJP, who called it an attempt by the Congress to sabotage India's global image.
The protesters reportedly entered the venue using QR-coded passes. Delhi Police sources said around 10 people, claiming to be members of the Youth Congress, participated in the demonstration. "Four to five individuals have been taken into custody," a police source said.
The visuals from the summit showed protesters raising slogans against the government after it sealed a trade deal with the US. The Opposition Congress has from the beginning alleged India didn't get justifiable benefits from the new trade framework signed with the US.
So far police have detained four protesters and are examining facial recognition to identify all the individuals involved in the chaos, adding that all of them will be arrested.
BJP rebukes
Meanwhile, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav called the disruption "absolute shamelessness from Congress."
"At a time Bharat is taking strides positioning itself as a global technology powerhouse, Congress is going all out to embarrass the country. This is not political opposition, this is an attempt at sabotaging India's global image. Despicable," he said in a post on X.
The BJP also describe the incident as Congress party's jealousy of India's growth story.
