PM Modi becomes world’s most followed political leader on Instagram, crosses 100 million followers
PTC Web Desk: Narendra Modi has become the world’s most followed political leader on Instagram, surpassing the historic milestone of 100 million (10 crore) followers on the platform. The Prime Minister, who joined Instagram in 2014, has now established a commanding lead over other global leaders in terms of social media presence.
According to available figures, Modi’s follower count is more than double that of US President Donald Trump, who currently has 43.2 million followers and ranks second globally among political leaders on Instagram.
Other prominent world leaders trail significantly behind. Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has 15 million followers, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stands at 14.4 million, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has 11.6 million, and Argentina’s President Javier Milei has 6.4 million followers. Combined, the follower counts of the next five leading global figures remain below Modi’s individual tally.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) described the achievement as a reflection of Modi’s global popularity and his strong connect with youth audiences across digital platforms. Since joining Instagram in 2014, Modi has consistently used social media to share updates on governance, diplomatic engagements, cultural events, and personal moments, helping him build a vast digital following both in India and internationally.
Within India, Modi also maintains a significant lead over other political figures. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ranks second domestically with 16.1 million followers, while senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has 12.6 million followers.
