Rajya Sabha polls: Congress fields Abhishek Singhvi, Anurag Sharma; Karamvir Baudh among new faces

PTC Web Desk:  The Indian National Congress on Thursday unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16, fielding senior party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Telangana.

Apart from Singhvi, the party nominated Anurag Sharma from Himachal Pradesh and Karamvir Baudh from Haryana. In Chhattisgarh, the party has renominated tribal leader Phulo Devi Netam for another term in the Upper House.

The party has also named Vem Narender Reddy, an adviser to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, as its candidate.

The selection of candidates has sparked discussion within party circles, particularly because two of the nominees, Baudh and Anurag Sharma, ere not widely expected to feature in the list.

Baudh, who earlier served as secretary of the Scheduled Caste cell at the All India Congress Committee, is regarded as a leader representing the Scheduled Caste community and is not aligned with any particular faction within the Haryana unit of the party.

In Himachal Pradesh, the nomination of Anurag Sharma, considered close to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has drawn attention. His selection comes at a time when former state Congress chief Pratibha Singh was reportedly hoping to secure a nomination either for herself or for her son, Vikramaditya Singh.
