Major reshuffle of governors and Lieutenant Governors across states and UTs, Taranjit Singh Sandhu is new Delhi L-G, VK Saxena sent to Ladakh
PTC Web Desk: President Droupadi Murmu late Thursday evening approved a major reshuffle of governors and Lieutenant Governors (LGs) across several Indian states and union territories. Former diplomat and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, succeeding Vinai Kumar Saxena, who has been moved to Ladakh.
In another significant move, Kavinder Gupta, earlier the LG of Ladakh, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekha, the Governor of Kerala, has been given additional charge of Tamil Nadu, replacing RN Ravi, who has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal.
The reshuffle follows the resignation of former West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose. Bose stated he had served for three-and-a-half years and chose to resign, though he did not reveal the reasons behind his decision.
The resignation has sparked political controversy in West Bengal, where Assembly elections are expected in April or May 2026. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her shock and concern, alleging that Bose was forced to resign under pressure from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to serve “certain political interests.” She criticised the appointment of RN Ravi as West Bengal Governor, stating that such decisions undermine the Constitution and the principles of cooperative federalism.

Syed Ata Hasnain as Governor of Bihar.
Nand Kishore as Governor of Nagaland.
Jishnu Dev Varma as Governor of Maharashtra.
Shiv Pratap Shukla, moved from Himachal Pradesh to Telangana.
The reshuffle comes at a politically sensitive time, with multiple state elections on the horizon, signaling a significant administrative realignment by the Centre.
