PTC Web Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in India on December 4–5 to participate in the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, following an official invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit comes at a time when New Delhi and Moscow have been strengthening bilateral ties, particularly after the United States imposed punitive tariffs related to India’s imports of Russian oil.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the state visit, noting that President Putin will engage in formal talks with Prime Minister Modi during his stay. President Droupadi Murmu will welcome the Russian leader at Rashtrapati Bhavan and host a state banquet in his honour.

According to the government, the summit will offer both nations an opportunity to assess ongoing cooperation, outline plans to deepen their ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,’ and deliberate on key regional and global developments.

Putin’s upcoming trip was initially indicated in August during National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s visit to Moscow, though the specific dates were finalised later. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi and President Putin held an hour-long conversation in the Russian leader’s limousine during their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China in September.
