Chandigarh, November 22: Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion seeking a response to a petition filed by Lal Singh, an independent candidate from Dirba, accusing state finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema of suspending a depot's licence for political extortion.

In a petition submitted through lawyer Navjot Singh, Lal Singh, an independent candidate from the Dirba assembly district, claimed that Cheema had attempted to use political influence to intimidate him.

In the plea, Lal Singh claimed that he was informed that his license was suspended for not providing ration to beneficiaries (blue card holders) despite the availability of stocks, without any prior notice.

However, he alleged that the move was made under the influence of the finance minister and sought the restoration of the license.
