Cold wave and dense fog to grip Punjab, Chandigarh; weather office issues alerts
PTC Web Desk: Residents of Punjab and Chandigarh are likely to experience intensifying cold conditions and dense fog over the next few days, the Meteorological Department has warned. According to the weather office, night-time and early morning hours will witness persistent fog, leading to a spell of dry cold weather across the region. No rainfall is expected during this period.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for dense fog till December 26, while a yellow alert has been announced for December 29, cautioning people about reduced visibility and potential travel disruptions.
The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre stated that no rainfall has been recorded in the plains so far, and weather conditions are expected to remain dry.
The western disturbance that earlier affected the Himalayan region has now moved beyond Jammu and Kashmir, reducing the chances of snowfall during the Christmas period.
The weather office has forecast light fog in districts, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Rupnagar and Mohali.
Meanwhile, dense fog is expected to prevail in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution during early morning travel due to low visibility conditions, particularly on highways and rural roads.
With dry weather and falling temperatures, residents are urged to take precautions against cold-related health issues.
