PTC Web Desk: A major mishap was averted in Ludhiana when a bus carrying at least 55 young players from Sangrur came in contact with high-tension wires in the Kochar Market area on Friday. The incident occurred as the bus was heading toward the venue of a sports competition scheduled for Saturday.
According to eyewitnesses, the high-tension cables hanging low in the area got entangled with the metal angle mounted on top of the bus, causing sparks to fly. Panic spread among the players as the wires began sparking and snapping. The sparks also triggered flashes in other connected power lines, forcing residents of the area to rush out of their homes.
Locals immediately alerted the bus driver and helped stop the vehicle at a safe distance. Displaying quick presence of mind, they safely evacuated all the players from the bus. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, though the children were visibly shaken. Residents said the wires broke and fell to the ground soon after contact, preventing the current from passing into the bus.
Following the incident, power supply in the entire area was disrupted due to the snapped wires. Residents raised strong objections against the electricity department, blaming the mishap on its negligence. They alleged that the department has failed to fix dangerously low-hanging cables that have been posing threats for a long time.
Officials from Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) arrived at the scene shortly after being informed. They immediately shut down the power supply and began repair work. Once the situation was brought under control, the players were sent to their destination in another vehicle.
