PTC Web Desk:  A man convicted in the 2012 killing of Assistant Sub‑Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Pal Singh was shot dead late Thursday night in Chheharta area of Amritsar, the police said. Dharmjit, alias Dharma, had been released on a 14‑day parole on September 12 and was fatally wounded while parking his car outside his home.

The police received information about the incident at around 12:15 am. Three assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled the scene. Dharma was pronounced dead at hospital. The body has been sent for a post‑mortem examination. The police have cordoned off the area and examining nearby CCTV footage as part of the probe.

A social‑media post circulating online claims that the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang has taken responsibility for the killing, naming several alleged shooters and describing the attack as retaliation against those who shelter the gang’s rivals. The police said the viral post was being examined but that independent verification of the claim was still pending.

Dharma was a convict in the high‑profile December 2012 murder of ASI Ravinder Pal Singh, who was shot while attempting to protect his daughter from alleged harassment. Preliminary police statements suggest the killing may be linked to ongoing gang rivalries in the region, including long‑standing enmity involving Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and rival groups. Authorities said investigative teams have been formed to trace the attackers and to determine whether the online claim of responsibility originated from persons connected to the gang.
